Chulip Spoiler-Friendly Guide
Intro
Hello fellow Chudlippers, I’ve written up this guide to give some pointers on getting through the game as it is very difficult without a guide, but the idea of playing the game knowing exactly what to do everywhere sounds incredibly unfun, as opposed to just having a few hints to push you in the right direction.
I’m often going to refer to elements with abbreviations/names:
- Poor Boy: Main character that you name
- Her: Love interest that you name (always capitalised this way)
- Residents: Characters that live above ground, require a longer quest completion to kiss
- Kiss: Quest for Residents (e.g. “This is required as part of Chuddy’s Kiss”)
- Underground Residents: Characters that come out of holes that you can kiss
- Viva: The state Underground Residents enter at which point you can kiss them (verb, e.g. To make Molechud viva, you must give him mud tenders)
- LLT: Long Life Town (the town you begin the game in)
- District 1: The west area of LLT
- District 3: The area your house is in LLT
- WDT: Wordly Desire Temple (the whole area)
- SF: Scarecrow’s Field (the whole area)
- FBC: Funny Bone City (the whole area)
There will be 4 categories of hints used in this guide to help you. Each puzzle below has a collapsible Show hints toggle — open only the level you need.
Example puzzle:
# Chuddy is angry and won't let me pass
Show hints
Obscure
You'll have to find out what he likes.
Vague
Someone in Chudville will know what he likes.
Specific
Chudette knows what he likes.
Explicit
Chuddy wants some chicken tendies. You can buy them from the store for him.
General Advice (No Spoilers)
Playing the game
- This is basically a detective game, you will need to do lots of talking to people and showing them things to get clues in order to proceed.
- Play with a notepad (either physical or virtual, I recommend physical personally as some of the puzzles are aided by being able to make sketches), note down any interesting things you find and keep it handy as some puzzle solutions will require you to recall it without any guidance.
- There is NO ingame journal or anything of the sort in this game, you will have to keep track of things yourself!
- You might find it useful to dedicate a section/page to a specific character and write down personal details, points of interest etc. I found myself wishing I had by the end of the game. Maybe observe their schedule and write that down too.
Mechanics
- Strengthen your heart by getting as many kisses as you can (you need to sleep to level up). Seriously having more HP is a must in this game as some of the hazards are brutal, especially the later areas.
- Speaking of hazards. Be cautious of everything in the game. Read signs in an area if you can before you interact with anything. There are lots of traps that will take chunks of your health off. Be especially cautious around Underground Residents, they are unpredictable.
- Save extremely often (you can save via toilets). There is nothing worse than losing a ton of progress because you forgot to save and hit a game over. Please do take the extra time to just run back to a toilet if you can rather than trying to save a few minutes by going straight to a new section after making a bunch of progress. Prioritise unlocking toilets in new areas too so you can save there.
- Get name cards for LLT residents. You can buy Your Card at the kiosk next to the train station which you can trade with other people for their name card. These are invaluable items that can be used to get clues from people about how to complete a resident’s Kiss, as well as important information about the residents. Sometimes the info you get from a resident’s name card may help with a different resident’s Kiss. Sometimes it helps with the main story.
- You can’t ever lose items except by selling them, so feel free to throw them away if you want to store them. You can retrieve them again from the Policeman.
- The fortune teller lives in the tunnel between District 3 and District 1. He may give you a fortune if you pass by at a critical moment…
Residents
- Residents are the characters that live above ground, pretty much all of them will have a schedule that they will follow throughout the day.
- Pay special attention to their schedule as it may help in completing their Kiss, sometimes following around characters is the best way to make progress with them.
- Almost all characters in a town that you see have a Kiss you can work towards to strengthen your heart, the exceptions are Dad, the teachers (Suzuki, Yamada etc.), the Train Station Clerk, Invisible Man, and some of the Funny Bone Factory workers.
- They do not Viva like Underground Residents, you will generally need to complete a quest or provide them with an item to complete their Kiss, at which point they’ll kiss you automatically.
Underground Residents
- Underground Residents live in holes that you will come across while travelling, if you interact with their hole you’ll see into their home and often get a clue on how to make them Viva, when they will emerge from their hole, or both.
- Sometimes the clue might be something in their home so pay special attention!.
- They will appear at a specific time range, that’s the only criteria to get them to appear. There are no secret methods required to get them to come out of their hole, only to make them Viva. You very rarely have to use items to make them Viva also.
- One of the Underground Residents will provide you with an apple, this grants you the ability to sprint so eat it when you get it!
Good Habits
- Check your mail every time you leave your house, you will get letters from people that you’ll miss if you don’t!
- Check the newspaper with Dad regularly, the 3rd story provides useful hints and is required for one Underground Resident
- Save often (stating this again for emphasis)
- Keep one of each item in the trash you find stored away, it may come in handy for later quests.
- Buy snacks at Mrs. Plum’s Snack Shop and keep them in your inventory when you go out venturing, they are invaluable and many times will save you from getting a game over. They heal for their price / 10, e.g. The Heart Chocolate costs 160z and heals 16 hearts. The exception for this is the Micro Gum.
- As mentioned before, you can never lose items in this game, so feel free to toss any you don’t have an immediate use for and they will end up in the lost and found at the police station.
Important: Localisation Errors
There are at least three points in the game where incorrect localisation or script errors give you little to no chance of working the solution out on your own.
I won’t tell you the full solutions to the puzzles/kisses/quests they are involved with, and you’ll still need to figure out the rest of the puzzle yourself, but in the Explicit category I’ll state the exact error and where it appears. You can probably just skip to the explicit category and still not have the full puzzle spoiled, but just in case you want to try your best to work it out yourself I’ve put it behind the hints system.
I strongly recommend you read these sections to save yourself hours of frustration.
# Sleepapple (Optional Progression, very difficult but possible with other clues)
Show hints
Obscure
When asked to find a Sleepapple, the name of an item is supposed to give a big clue towards this, but due to a localisation error the item is missing the clue.
Vague
You can still get a very leading clue about this by showing the item to residents around LLT.
Specific
The item is something you can buy in LLT.
Explicit
The Popsicle is supposed to be named "Apple Popsicle", it wasn't correctly localised from the original Japanese text (リンゴのアイス).
# Hole in the wall (Mandatory Progression, very difficult but possible with other clues)
Show hints
Obscure
There's dialogue from showing somebody's name card to Her that cuts off before stating what item they're talking about. You can still find out the info from showing the item she's talking about to other people.
Vague
If you get this dialogue with the cut off text, you will get a similar story when showing Her the item she's talking about.
Specific
It's dialogue from showing Mrs. Plum's Card to Her, the item is something you can buy from Mrs. Plum's store.
Explicit
Her dialogue is: A kid disappeared behind the snack shop. Scary isn't it? My mum told me never to eat, presumably she was supposed to say “Micro Gum”.
# Scarecrow's Field Main Quest (Mandatory Progression, virtually impossible without reading)
Show hints
Obscure
The missing words are "Soccer Dempou".
Vague
These words are supposed to instruct you to do something during the second part of a quest.
Specific
They're supposed to be said before you interact with a certain object.
Explicit
When you're interacting with a computer in Scarecrow's Field at the top of the tower, a character is supposed to tell you "Soccer Dempou"; because of a localisation error this dialogue is missing entirely.
Main Quest
Long Life Train Co. Rock Incident
Going to skip the introductory section as it’s fairly straightforward. Before doing anything I recommend just exploring the town and getting your bearings, go talk to people and have fun!
# How do I make a start on getting rid of the rock on the train tracks?
Show hints
Obscure
Try talking to people that you've already met.
Vague
You'll only be able to talk to this person in the afternoon.
Specific
Talk to Mr. Suzuki who you met under the manhole near your house.

You need to check in on their meeting at the park, you'll have to try to use the crossing at least once before Mr. Suzuki will fix it for you.
# How do I find Mr. Yamada?
Show hints
Obscure
If you explore after the meeting you should eventually find him.
Vague
He's in a part of town you haven't been able to visit yet.
Specific
Go past the river next to the town square.
Explicit
He's at the entrance to Lover's Tree, which is on the far west side of town, past the river and all the shops/buildings there.
# Okay now what?
Show hints
Obscure
He's not ran away to any building or hiding spot, and he's not the utility poles that I kept trying to interact with!
Vague
You'll have to go somewhere you've probably already visited and check it out again.
Specific
It's in District 1 (The area with the town square).
Explicit
Go check out the rock on the train tracks again.
Wordly Desire Temple
The game opens up at this point, you can technically visit any of the 3 areas in any order and you should probably do that, get some more kisses and level up your heart strength as the game has an incoming difficulty spike.
Once again before consulting any hints I recommend just exploring yourself, talk to people in the area.
# How do I make a start here?
Show hints
Obscure
Explore the area thoroughly.
Vague
You're looking for the guy who stole part of the Love Letter Set, what did he look like?

Show hints
Obscure
Make sure you checked out all his dialogue, several times.
Vague
The dialogue will change each time you check it.
Specific
Pay attention to the dialogue about the writing on his body, you'll need an item to help with this, you may not have seen it yet but it's been available since the start.
Explicit
The item you need is the Magnifier, you can buy it in Mr. Cheapot's store. You'll have to use it on the Monk in order to read the writing on his body.
# What does the writing mean?
Show hints
Obscure
It's an important clue, write it down and explore the area.
Vague
You won't be able to solve the puzzle yet, but you can find the puzzle it's related to in the WDT area.
Specific
You can find the puzzle in the graveyard.
Explicit
The puzzle relates to the family names on the gravestones, you'll need another item to proceed.
# I know what the writing is for, but what do I do next?
Show hints
Obscure
Talk to the monk again, you'll need to do something else with him.
Vague
Ask him where he goes.
Specific
He tells you that he will visit your town to collect donations. Go back to your town and find him.
Explicit
Once you've asked him where he goes (you must do this first), you can now find him during the day over by the crossing to the park in LLT. Give him some money and you'll get an item.
# What do I do with the item the monk gave me?
Show hints
Obscure
Thoroughly check the WDT area again for a use for it. If you find a way to use it but are stuck still, check the "I talked to the monk, what do I do now?" puzzle hints a few sections back
Vague
You don't need to show it to anybody. If you find a way to use it with but are stuck still, check the "I talked to the monk, what do I do now?" puzzle hints a few sections back
Specific

Interact with the family gravestones in the graveyard, you'll be asked to light the incense. If you don't have the solution for this puzzle yet check the "I talked to the monk, what do I do now?" puzzle hints a few sections back
Funny Bone City
This is probably one of the most frustrating areas in the game, and where the game starts to become extremely tedious without a guide.
You’re going to need to do a lot of backtracking and sidetracking and lots of travelling via train at this point.
Make sure you check out and make a note of all the graffiti (you can’t see it but an exclamation mark will pop up) around the walls, as well as the signs and noticeboards in the area.
# I just keep getting shot out of a cannon!! What am I supposed to do here?

Set your alarm clock to 4am, sleep and then make your way to the train station for the 5:30AM train from LLT, then get the next train to FBC
# Okay, I've talked to the lady, now what do I do?
Show hints
Obscure
Give the flier she gave you to someone in LLT.
Vague
Who do you know that fits the description?
Specific
Who do you know that's looking for a job? Talk to people around LLT if you haven't been doing this already!

You need to give the flier to Batayan, you can find him playing guitar around LLT at various times.
# I got somebody a job at the factory, but I'm still getting shot out of that damn cannon! How do I enter?
Show hints
Obscure
The advertisement mentioned a manager for a day pass. You're gonna need that to enter.
Vague
It said you would receive a manager for a day pass after referring someone for the job, but you won't get it from talking to anybody at the factory, nor from Batayan.

Specific
You only have to press them once each, there is an audible cue for when to press each button.
Explicit
Listen for the guy's voice in the background, he will speak 4 times. Each time when he says "Hai", you must press the correct button, X first, then Triangle, then Circle and finally X.
# Okay I'm in the factory what am I supposed to do now?
Show hints
Obscure
Talk with as many people as you can, make a note of anything interesting they say.
Vague
There's someone important in the first area to talk to, and someone in the third area who will talk about the vault
Specific
The employee in the first area will give you a letter which will be important later, the employee in the third area mentions a vault which you need to access.
Explicit
The employee you need to talk to in the first area who gives you the letter is immediately diagonal right from you. The one in the third area is on the west side of the area near the wrecking ball. You'll need to access the vault he mentions using the train.

Show hints
Obscure
Check the graffiti on the walls around the entrance to the factory, one mentions something that might help you figure out the solution.
Vague
The specific graffiti I'm referring to says some of the security guards are lazy. Lazy security guards probably don't check very hard for intruders. How could we find out which ones are lazy?
Specific
You'll need to talk to somebody in each area to find out if the security guard is lazy. There's only one lazy security guard and he'll be in one of the areas. It changes each visit.
Explicit
Employees to talk to: First area: Northwest corner near the cement bags. Second area: Inside the building at the top of the ladder. Third area: Wrecking ball operator, head straight to him and wait for him to get out of the vehicle (don't stand too close or he won't get out). Fourth area: In the center at the back of the fenced area.
# How do I get the combination for the safe?
Show hints
Obscure
Did you talk to all the employees? Check the ""Okay I'm in the factory what am I supposed to do now?" puzzle hints a few sections back
Vague
You're going to need to carry out a request for someone in the factory.
Specific
Someone asks you to deliver a letter in the first area of the tour, you need to deliver that letter to find the combination.
Explicit
Take the letter the employee in the first area (immediately diagonal right from you) gives you to the Scarecrow in Scarecrow's field.

# The safe combination isn't working!
Show hints
Obscure
Did you thoroughly read the information in the diary?
Vague
The scarecrow left another important clue other than the cofe, check the next hint for the text that was in his diary.
Specific
"The number of the safe is... 123-321-444-564. Don't be fooled by a fake dial. The safe manager guards the real one. Go for it when he's not around"
Explicit
You have to input the code you get from his diary into the train at the factory and go to each 3 digit number one by one. The dial on the safe is a red herring.
Scarecrow’s Field
You can enter this area and do a lot of its content before ever going to do FBC, but you won’t be able to finish the main quest for this until you’ve made significant progress or finished FBC as you need some items to complete it.
You may have already entered here several times already if you finished FBC beforehand, if so you’re probably already a little familiar with the layout, but if not do take some time to explore and look around.

Vague
You'll have to get a closer look, didn't it crash nearby?.

What could help you understand language?
Vague
Something that tells you the definition of words. You may already have ran into it.
Specific
You need a dictionary.
Explicit
You need all four Alien Dictionaries, they can be found at various places in the game.
# Can you give me some general info on how to find the dictionaries?
Show hints
Obscure
You won't find any of them in SF. Explore and do some side content that you might have missed. Make sure you've completed all the other main quests of each area before you start trying to look for them.
Vague
If you already have one, showing it to people might give you hints on where to find the other ones.
Specific
One is in WDT, one is in FBC. The other two are in LLT.
Explicit
Two are found by kissing Underground Residents. One is bought from a store for 1980z. The remaining dictionary requires some detective work to find out how to obtain. Check out the "Where is Alien Dictionary 1/2/3/4?" puzzle hint sections coming up next if you can't find them after this.
# Where is Alien Dictionary 1?
Show hints
Obscure
It's in WDT.
Vague
You'll have to explore there before 6pm.

Vague
You'll have to explore inside the factory after 6pm.
Specific
An Underground Resident has it. Kiss them to receive it.
Explicit
Jigsaw has it, they're in the 4th area (the one with the toilet) (See Underground Residents section for hints on how to make them Viva).
# Where is Alien Dictionary 3?
Show hints
Obscure
The easiest one to get. Just look around more.
Vague
You can buy it.
Specific
Buy it in LLT.
Explicit
Mr. Cheapot is selling it in his shop near your house, you can buy it from him for 1980z. If you need money look for scrap in the Scarecrow's Field trash can and sell it to him.
# Where is Alien Dictionary 4?
Show hints
Obscure
It's in LLT. This is the hardest one to get and you'll need to do a bit of detective work. You'll have to talk to and show things to people in LLT. Try showing a dictionary you've already got around town to people, someone will outright tell you where Dictionary 4 is.
Vague
You'll probably know where it is before you work out how to get it. Once you know where it is, try inquiring about things related to that place.
Specific
Check out the **(Mandatory Progression) Dialogue cut off that helps tremendously in main quest progression** section of the localisation errors, work through those hints up to and including the **Explicit** hint, you hopefully will be able to figure it out yourself
Explicit
You need the Micro Gum that you can buy from Mrs. Plum's Snack Shop, show this to people around town and follow the leads they give you and you should get a very big clue on what you need to do.
Extra Explicit
Eat the Micro Gum next to the hole in the wall behind Mrs. Plum's Snack Shop at the moment you hear the gong sound at around 5:05pm.
# I have all the dictionaries, but using them on the Alien does nothing. What do I do with them?
Show hints
Obscure
You need a way to understand them, is there anything that you've read about that gives you knowledge?
Vague
You'll definitely notice something strange if you look around SF.
Specific
Any strange sounds?
Explicit
Go to the glowing rock towards the northwest side of SF, this is Monkey Rock. Use the dictionaries on it.
# I don't know where to find what the Alien wants.
Show hints
Obscure
One of them is in a set spot, the rest are random pickups
Vague
Two of them are in LLT, One is in SF.
Specific
The computer can be bought in LLT, the refigerator is in a trash can, the frying pan is in a trash can.
Explicit
The computer can be bough in Mr. Cheapot's store in LLT for 11,800z. I recommend doing some Underground Residents in FBC to raise the funds for this as they pay out a lot, or selling the trash you can find in SF's trash can. The refrigerator is in SF's trash can (near where the UFO crashed by the river on the west side). The frying pan you can find several of in the trash can near Mr Cheapot's or the trash can outside Yabu Hospital. The loot for trash cans resets every day so sleep if you can't find any.

Show hints
Obscure
He'll come back after a while. Go sleep or read a comic book.

Vague
Please check section **(Mandatory Progression) Dialogue missing during a main story quest in Scarecrow's Field** this is virtually unsolvable otherwise.
Specific
You need to do something specific to the computer. What does "Soccer Dempou" mean? You'll probably need to go back to LLT...
Explicit
You need to put Funny Cola in the computer. The vending machine outside Mrs. Plum's Snack Shop sells it.
# I'm using the computer, but I have no idea what I'm supposed to be doing...
Show hints
Obscure
You need to do something else in Scarecrow's Field to get the solution to this puzzle.
Vague
There's an item you can find in the tall grass. Two of them actually, but you only need one.
Specific
You're looking for Star Seed. You'll have to do something with it.
Explicit
Plant the Star Seed in the soil in the north east area of Scarecrow's Field, there are two areas you can plant and you need to use the patch that has Poor Boy spread seeds all around (the upper one). Jot down this pattern somewhere as you'll need to put it into the computer.
Finale
You’re finally here! Congratulations on getting this far, even moreso if you’ve not used many hints at all or stuck to only obscure/vague hints.
At this point in the game I’d really recommend you to collect as much info as you can about Long Life Town and its residents, use those name cards around town, talk to lots of people, explore the town and take notes on things, try to get kisses from many residents (See Kisses section for hints on these), and strengthen your heart as much as you can.
If you haven’t already been taking notes down in a notepad, you will definitely want to for this part if you want to get through it legitimately.
# So what am I supposed to do now?
Show hints
Obscure
If you somehow haven't collected all the Love Letter Set pieces, go finish the other areas and get them. If you already collected all the Love Letter Set pieces, think about it for 5 fucking seconds...
Vague
You remember why we were collecting those pieces in the first place right?
Specific
Return them to their owner, then ask him to do the thing you were getting these pieces to do.
Explicit
Go back to Mr. Suzuki, who lives in the manhole nearby to your house (only accessible in the afternoon). Give him all the Love Letter Set pieces if you haven't already then ask to write a love letter.
# I tried mailing my letter at the train station mailbox, but Mr. Suzuki says I shouldn't have done that? How do I reach Her heart?
Show hints
Obscure
This one is kind of weird as no one gives you any info on what to do as far as I could tell. Try looking around.
Vague
Do you know where Mr. Yamada (utility pole guy) is right now? You may have seen him earlier on in the game after he got mugged.
Specific
Mr. Yamada was digging a hole. Where would be easy to dig in the town?
Explicit
Go to the park.
# What witnesses do I need to ask to speak? They all insult her!
Show hints
Obscure
You need witnesses with a good opinion of Julie's grilled chicken.
Vague
You probably need to ask around town more to find out.
Specific
Show Julie's name card (Julie's Photo) to people in LLT. Take note of what they say about Julie's grilled chicken.
Explicit
Ask Michelle (cleaning lady) and Mrs. Plum (tiny old lady) to speak. Skip everyone else.

Explicit
Read his notes on his desk while he's asleep during the early hours of the morning (you can go there straight from waking up at 8am) or after he has left at night, you will see that he has prescribed himself something for Ainmosni (Insomnia backwards). You'll need to collect these three ingredients: Wake Up Frog, Sleepicada, Sleepapple. See the next few puzzle hint sections for hints.

It's a frog.
Vague
You can find them in LLT, they aren't all the same though...
Specific
There are 2 different types of Frog in LLT found in trash cans (the one near Julie's bar has a high chance of giving you frogs), you won't know which is which from first glance though, someone might know the difference.
Explicit
If you take a Frog to Leo and show it to him, he will tell you which type of Frog it is. You can only show him stuff when he's not working, try catching him as he's leaving Turtle Bath after it closes (11pm) or while he's walking to it.

# Where do I find a Sleepapple?
Show hints
Obscure
It's not an apple you're looking for.
Vague
It's something with Sleepapple as an ingredient, showing it to people will have them comment on how it makes you sleepy or sleep well. Strongly recommend you just check the "Localisation Errors" section under the "Sleepapple" section for hints on this as they botched something with one of the items that makes this a lot harder. The explicit section gives it away but you can use the other hints there to push you in the right direction.
Specific
It's something you can buy in LLT
Explicit
It's the popsicle that you can buy from Mrs. Plum's snack shop
# I have the ingredients, what do I do now?

Julie
# How do I make a start on their Kiss?
Show hints
Obscure
You'll need to make progress with the main quest and other residents before you can get anywhere with this. Julie might end up being one of the last residents you start.
Vague
Someone else will ask you to do something that involves Julie as part of their Kiss progression.
Specific
You won't be able to start this until after you've finished the WDT portion of the main quest. Then when you've done that you can make progress with another resident which will lead into this quest.
Explicit
You need to start Bell's Kiss, see Bell's section in Worldly Desire Temple Residents for details on how to start this. At some point she will give you an item that you need to take to Julie.
# I gave Julie the coupon, but I don't know what to do next?
Show hints
Obscure
Talk to her, she has different dialogue now.
Vague
She cares a lot more than she claims to.
Specific
If you can find out where her husband is, you should probably let her know. Who might know?
Explicit
Go talk to Policeman, he will tell you that Goro is in the graveyard. After you have talked to him about this go back and tell Julie.
# I told Julie, but nothing seems to have changed? What do I do next?
Show hints
Obscure
This next part of progressing Julie's Kiss is interlinked with 2 other Kisses, and thus has a lot of logic/knowledge dependencies in order to progress naturally. It's likely you've already started them or encountered them, but if not I suggest exploring more and trying to piece things together for yourself. Despite how it may seem, something about Julie has changed since this event. Try following her schedule.
Vague
Have you checked out the Underground Residence next to her bar yet? Can you think of a way you can break out Goro? You can't break him out by going to WDT.
Specific
To get Goro back you're going to have to find a way to get sent to the graveyard, see Policeman's section further down and Thief Tip Toe IV's section in LLT Underground Residents for more hints. The Explicit section for this puzzle WILL spoil these other two Kisses so click at your own risk.
Explicit
You need 3 Crime Stamps for the Policeman to send you to jail. One of them is from being naked in front of him during the day (he'll simply shoot you if he's on patrol at night). One of them is for smoking tobacco in front of him (can be bought at the train station kiosk for 500z or found randomly in the trees/bushes in FBC). The other is for stealing. In order to get the crime stamp for stealing you'll need to complete Thief Tip Toe IV's Kiss. At this point of the Julie Kiss progression you should be able to complete it if you wait around for him outside of Julie's bar around 7am. He'll go into her shop and steal from her safe. Go find him again in the alley outside where he will be stuck, if you interact with him you'll take some damage and then he'll be Vivad ready for you to kiss him in the alley. He will drop Julie's Hairpin which you can take to Policeman to get the final crime stamp and get sent to the graveyard.
# How do I set Goro free from his cell? What'hs the combination/the combination isn't working?
Show hints
Obscure
Thoroughly check around the area, the combination to this puzzle is easy to find if you look around enough. Make an exact copy of what you find on a notebook or in Paint or whatever.
Vague
Talk to Goro in his cell, can you gain any clues from this if you look at the combination again. There are 2 parts to the combinations by the way.
Specific
There are markings underneath parts of the combination, these indicate something special about how you must input that part of the combination.
Explicit
The line underneath the buttons is supposed to represent a seismometer, which is used to measure earthquakes. You must input the buttons that have the pointy parts of the line underneath them when the ground is shaking. You have to talk to Goro to make him start shaking the ground for the first time, after that he will do it at regular intervals. If he stops shaking the ground you must talk to him again.
Leo
# How do I make a start on their Kiss?
Show hints
Obscure
You should be able to work out what your goal is here if you've already found Leo.
Vague
Go find him when he's working.
Specific
Take a bath, stinky.
Explicit
You need to take a bath at Turtle Bath correctly, Leo will shout at you if you don't bathe correctly and you'll take some damage. You're going to need to find out how to take a bath the correct way.
# How do I find out how to take a bath correctly?
Show hints
Obscure
This isn't a cultural knowledge check nor is there any outside info required. All the information you need is provided to you in-game.
Vague
You can find the info from people in LLT, you won't find it out from Leo or anywhere in Turtle Bath.
Specific
You need to show Leo's name card to somebody and they'll give you a pretty big clue towards this.
Explicit
You need to show Leo's name card to Batayan and he will tell you that the fortune teller can tell you how to take a bath properly.
# The fortune teller won't talk to me/isn't telling me anything about taking a bath!
Show hints
Obscure
If you've not talked to him, there's a special condition to make him talk to you. If you've talked to him, you may need to try a few more times.
Vague
To get him to talk to you in the first place, you don't need to complete any progression based element or have any items in your inventory, it might have happened to you already naturally. There's a specific random condition to get him to tell you about taking a bath.
Specific
You need to go through the tunnel at a specific hour for him to talk to you, once you do you can go through as many times as you like. You must receive a very bad fortune for him to tell you about taking a bath.
Explicit
You need to enter the tunnel at 4 - 5pm, you can go through as many times as you like during this hour and he will still talk to you. His dialogue relating to taking a bath when you receive a very bad fortune (Water Hazard) is as follows: "When you take a bath, Splash on right Splash on left, Splash on right Splash on left, Relax and... Stay in the tub until your eyes open wide.".
# I've tried what the fortune teller said, but it's not working! Leo still gets mad at me...
Show hints
Obscure
Re-read his dialogue again, it helps to have a full word-for-word copy of what he said written down somewhere, if you don't have that check the Vague clue
